Parent’s Bill of Rights
PARENT BILL OF RIGHTS FOR SCHOLAR CODE OF CONDUCT
The Parent Bill of Rights is designed to outline the essential rights and responsibilities of parents/guardians in relation to their child’s education and well-being at Miles Ahead Charter School (MACS). It ensures open communication, mutual respect, and collaboration between parents and the school to support student success.
1. Right to Access Information
Parents/guardians have the right to:
- Receive clear and accurate information regarding their child’s academic progress, behavior, and school activities.
- Access and review their child’s academic records, including report cards, attendance, standardized test scores, and disciplinary reports.
- Be informed of school policies, procedures, and the Scholar Code of Conduct in a timely and accessible manner.
2. Right to a Safe and Supportive Environment
Parents/guardians have the right to:
- Expect that their child will be educated in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment, free from bullying, harassment, or discrimination.
- Report any concerns regarding their child’s safety or well-being to school staff and receive prompt responses and appropriate action.
- Be informed of any significant incidents involving their child, including disciplinary actions, safety concerns, or health issues.
3. Right to Communication and Involvement
Parents/guardians have the right to:
- Participate in regular, open communication with teachers, administrators, and school staff regarding their child’s education and development.
- Be notified of and invited to school events, meetings, and conferences relevant to their child’s progress and school experience.
- Be involved in decisions affecting their child’s educational experience, including special education services, intervention plans, and academic placements.
4. Right to Advocate for Their Child
Parents/guardians have the right to:
- Advocate for their child’s individual needs, including academic accommodations, support services, and any necessary interventions to ensure their success.
- Request meetings or conferences with teachers or administrators to discuss concerns or issues affecting their child’s education or well-being.
- Challenge or appeal decisions related to their child’s discipline, academic placement, or other significant school-related matters through appropriate school channels.
5. Right to Privacy and Confidentiality
Parents/guardians have the right to:
- Expect that their child’s personal and academic information will be kept confidential and only shared with authorized individuals in compliance with school policies and applicable laws.
- Be informed of the school’s data collection policies and have access to any personal data collected on their child.
6. Right to be Heard
Parents/guardians have the right to:
- Provide feedback on school policies, procedures, and practices through appropriate channels, including parent meetings, surveys, and school boards.
- Be treated with respect and dignity in all interactions with school staff, ensuring a collaborative and positive relationship between the school and family.
7. Right to Educational Support
Parents/guardians have the right to:
- Receive resources, guidance, and support from the school in addressing any academic, behavioral, or emotional challenges their child may be facing.
- Be informed of available academic enrichment programs, extracurricular activities, and support services that can aid their child’s development and growth.
Parent Responsibilities
With these rights come certain responsibilities to ensure the academic success and well-being of all students at MACS. Parents/guardians are encouraged to:
- Support their child’s education by fostering a positive attitude toward learning and encouraging regular attendance and timely completion of assignments.
- Maintain open communication with the school, responding to requests for meetings and sharing concerns that may affect their child’s academic performance or behavior.
- Respect school policies and procedures, including the Scholar Code of Conduct, and work with the school to address any behavioral or academic issues involving their child.
