About Miles Ahead Charter School

Miles Ahead Charter School is a tuition-free, public charter school authorized by the State Charter Schools Commission (SCSC) of Georgia serving grades K-5 in the 2025-2026 academic year. As an SCSC authorized school, Miles Ahead operates as a Local Educational Authority (LEA) and has a statewide attendance zone. Miles Ahead is committed to providing an educational opportunity students may not have been afforded outside of their local options.

Mission of Miles Ahead Charter School

Miles Ahead Charter School (MACS) is an authorized tuition-free, public school focused on student growth and academic achievement through a whole child approach to education. Our mission is to provide all students with the social and academic skills necessary to help them realize their potential for local impact and global change within a 21st century learning environment. Therefore, our vision is to prepare scholars to be knowledgeable, responsible individuals ensuring we live in a compassionate, digital society.

Overview of Position

Paraprofessionals at MACS support the lead instructor with the development, growth, and academic success of the scholars. At MACS, all staff adjust instruction based upon the needs of scholars, and Paraprofessionals assist in the direction set forth by either their Lead Teacher, Director of Academics and Culture, or the Executive Director.

Paraprofessionals Must:

  • Support teachers in meeting the instructional, educational, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of all scholars in the classroom and community.
  • Provide small group and/or individualized instruction to scholars in accordance with the lead teacher’s lesson plans.
  • Help maintain schoolwide organization efforts for teachers, including data binders, newsletters, behavior trackers, or attendance records.
  • Possess a basic knowledge of elementary education to support scholar learning and mastery.
  • Have a basic knowledge of child development.
  • Leverage instructional practices to meet the academic, social-emotional, and growth needs of scholars.
  • Effectively supervise children.
  • Monitor the movement of scholars through buildings, recess, and lunch.
  • Maintain accurate records related to student work samples and data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher, Grade Level Lead, Director of Academics, or Executive Director.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Classroom experience and/or proven ability to work with children preferred
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions quickly and accurately
  • Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal both with students and adults
  • Excellent organizational skills and flexibility
  • Technology proficiency (computers, AV, office equipment, etc) (Media Paras)
  • Library organization and filing procedure knowledge (ability to alphabetize to three letters and order numerically to the ten-thousandths place) (Media Paras)
  • If working as a Paraprofessional in the Dual Immersion program, should exhibit proficiency in spoken and written language of instruction
  • Desire to continuously learn and increase effectiveness as a professional
  • Unwavering commitment to MACS’s mission and willingness to go above and beyond to meet the needs of MACS scholars, families, and staff

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Willingness to complete Georgia’s Paraprofessional Program, or start path towards certification
  • Experience working with elementary aged children
  • Interested in working across all aspects of a school: academic, operational, logistics, and finance
  • Clear Criminal Background Check
  • Authorized to Work in the United States
  • Strong communication abilities
  • Exceptional Hiring Skill: Bilingual or Multilingual

Additional Information Compensation

Paraprofessionals are paid hourly at $18.00/hour for a 40 hour work week. This is in addition to competitive benefits packages, TRS contributions and more employee optional elections.
