Technology at MACS
Equipping scholars with tools for tomorrow.
At Miles Ahead Charter School, we believe that technology is more than a tool — it’s a gateway to curiosity, creativity, and future-ready skills. Our approach to technology is purposeful and balanced: we use digital tools to enhance learning, foster collaboration, and ensure scholars are prepared to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
Tools for Success
1:1 Device Program
Every MACS scholar receives access to a school-issued Chromebook (or device appropriate for their grade level), supporting learning in and out of the classroom.
Key features:
-
Devices stay at school unless otherwise assigned
-
Used for core instruction, research, skill practice, and enrichment
-
Integrated into daily lessons, assessments, and collaborative activities
Scholar Technology Agreement
All MACS scholars and families are required to review and sign our Scholar Technology Agreement at the start of each school year. This agreement outlines:
- Responsible use of school devices
- Expectations for care and handling
- Rules for digital behavior and academic integrity
- Consequences for misuse
Tech Tips for Families
-
1
Use Parental Controls at Home
Enable filters and restrictions on your home Wi-Fi, streaming services, and devices to block inappropriate content and limit screen time. -
2
Teach Smart Sharing Habits
Remind scholars to never share personal info online — including their full name, school, address, or passwords — even with friends. -
3
Check Devices Weekly
Take time to review your scholar’s browsing history, search activity, and login records. Stay aware of what sites and apps they’re using. -
4
Talk About Online Behavior
Have open conversations about cyberbullying, group chats, and respectful communication. Let your scholar know they can come to you if something feels off.
